I Issue 4 Welcome Welcome to the fourth issue of Arts4All Newsletter. This issue introduces an endearing new capability, the "Email a friend" option. As you browse through the Newsletter, if you find something you'd like to show a friend or colleague, you can send an email message while you're thinking of it, without having to leave the Newsletter. Just click on the "Email a friend" link. Try it out! Thanks to all of you who have sent in Comments, and to the new subscribers, too. The Comments / Subscribe Department is always available to you, so once you have subscribed, feel free to go back as often as you like to send us your feedback. In Comments on Comments we look at some highlights from what you have sent us so far. A4A Discussions are up and running. Pay a visit, and send in your two cents. Two musicians, trained concert pianists both, are profiled in this issue. Celia Johnson meets with Yatri, a player- composer-improviser who turns her attention these days to the glass armonica, invented by Benjamin Franklin, and only recently enjoying a renaissance. Peter Taussig, interviewed by Larry Bloome, has channeled his energies toward "musical sculpture" - a marriage of high technology with the concert grand piano tradition. His curiosity only whetted by the article about Yatri, our own Michael Nicolella did some more digging to produce an engaging look at the strange history of the glass armonica. Therese Schwartz concludes her overview of New York City's contemporary art world. She adds it all together with a stirring call to action for artists to rethink their isolationist tendencies, and to look beyond the clean white space. Our first, second and third issues are on hand, in the Previous Issues archive. If you haven't already done so, sign up for a free subscription by going to the Comments / Subscribe page, checking the checkbox, and entering your name and email address. A subscription will ensure you receive an email from us announcing each new issue and summarizing its contents. While you are at the Comments / Subscribe page, take a moment and tell us what you think about the Newsletter. The Arts4All Basics describe the subscription process, as well. Good news: free subscriptions will continue indefinitely. Tell your friends! You can refer to the performance and residency schedules for the season's events at the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts at the University of Illinois, and for the Limón Dance Company's 1999 / 2000 season. Please contact us for information, if your organization is interested in publishing its schedule in the Newsletter. We take classified ads as well - email us at classifieds@arts4all.com for more information. We invite your comments, recommendations, suggestions for articles, and other creative input. Send your emails directly to editor@arts4all.com, or use Comments / Subscribe (structured responses) and A4A Discussions (free text moderated discussions organized in threaded, archived topics). If you would like to submit an article to be considered for publication, or if you want to add your work to our Artist Pages, write the editor. For subscription, permissions, privacy policy, classified advertising and other basic information, see Arts4All Basics, elsewhere in this issue. |
