Linkage - Philanthropic Connections compiled by Michael Nicolella The number of nonprofit organizations with websites is enormous, and listing all of them here daunts this reviewer. This installment of Linkage contains websites that will be useful for not-for-profits, for a general interest audience, and for specific individual needs. Rather than individual sites, I've included directory sites geared to an interest area you may have. http://www.pnnonline.org/ The PNN is an information space and marketplace for nonprofits. It divides news into many categories, such as Corporate Giving, Education, People, and Volunteers. The site design is oriented towards professionals, and its news departments offer a good breadth of coverage. During one visit I saw online journals from aid workers in Kosovo, news about the antics of Nike CEO Phil Knight, and an announcement that three charities are teaming up to send suicide-prevention video kits to every public high school in the nation, following an alarming rise in adolescent suicides. A good general-interest news site for current affairs, especially considering the paltry standards and bald sensation of many news media outlets. http://www.nonprofitcareer.com A site that aspires to be a comprehensive resource for nonprofit organizations, volunteers, and nonprofit job seekers. The site appears to be still filling itself out. It features a job resource center, a directory of nonprofit organizations, listings of job fairs, conferences, workshops, and conventions, a directory of professional services, and a section to connect volunteers with organizations that need their help. Job postings are well-subscribed. http://www.radiofreeworld.com/pa
ge5.html A Free Speech Guide published by this site, Digital Freedom features writing from human rights activists across the globe, including human rights news summaries and poetry by threatened Serb poet Darinka Jevric. The ACLU and Grandmothers for Peace share Internet frontage with sites about free speech, safe food, and history. The site also has web radio and guides to online sound files. http://www.danceusa.org/members.html A national service organization for not-for-profit professional dance. This page lists a large number of dance presenters, companies, service organizations, affiliates, and more. It is part of a large site that lists programs and services, offers membership in DanceUSA, and provides other features relevant to the organization's work. http://www.philanthropysearch.com "The gateway to the online world of philanthropy, charity, and the nonprofit sector." Search categories include art and culture, education, social services, religious charities, environment, children and youth, animal protection, health charities, and seniors. http://www.volunteermatch.org Offers the chance to post or find an opportunity for volunteer work. Searches can be made by locality or by volunteer category, which has many entries. Also, there is a section for remote volunteering, such as telephone working, grant writing, and more. |
